Terms of use
Last updated 12 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Keelz when you use the Keelz app and website. They apply on the free plan, during a free trial and on Premium. Please read them, in particular section 6 about the SOS screen and section 11 about our responsibility to you.
How we look after your personal information is explained in the privacy notice.
01Who we are
Keelz is run by Lewis Huddy, a sole trader trading as Keelz, in the United Kingdom. In these terms “we”, “us” and “our” mean Lewis Huddy trading as Keelz, and “you” means the person using the app.
You can contact us by email at myboatappuk@gmail.com.
02What Keelz is
Keelz keeps a boat's records in one place: its details and identifiers, equipment, engine hours, services and tests, safety kit, documents, photos, parts, costs and checklists, with reminders before things fall due.
- An owner can keep several boats, each with its own records.
- A fleet or hire business can run several boats, take bookings and raise invoices to its customers.
- A hire customer sees their own booking, their invoices and the documents the owner shares with them.
- The SOS screen shows the boat's identifiers and your device's position, ready to read out in an emergency (see section 6).
- It runs in a web browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and can be added to your home screen.
The live demo uses a sample boat and sample people. What you change in the demo stays in your own browser and can be reset at any time. It is not an account and nothing in it is kept for you.
03Your account
- You must be 18 or over to create an account.
- Give us accurate details and keep your email address up to date, as that is where your reminders and account messages go.
- Keep your password private and do not share your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password and tell us straight away.
- If you create a fleet or business account, you confirm that you are allowed to act for that business, and the business is responsible for what the people it gives access to do.
- You are responsible for what happens on your account, unless it happened because we failed to keep it secure.
04Free trial, plans and payment
Free trial
A new account gets 30 days with everything switched on. You do not need to give card details for the trial, and it does not turn into a paid plan by itself. When it ends, your account moves to the free plan.
Free plan
The free plan keeps your boat's details, engines and drives, electronics and equipment list, safety kit list and the SOS screen. Reminders, service history, documents, photos and the other Premium features are locked, but nothing you added is deleted. It all comes back if you subscribe.
Premium
- Premium costs £3.99 a month or £29.99 a year for your first boat. Each extra boat is £19.99 a year.
- The prices shown are the full price you pay. We do not add VAT on top.
- A subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year, using the payment method you gave, until you cancel it.
- If we change the price, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before the new price applies to you, so you can cancel first if you wish.
- If a payment fails and is not put right, your account moves to the free plan. Your records are kept.
Paying
Payments are taken by Square, our payment provider, on Square's own secure page. Nobody types card details into Keelz, and we never see or keep your full card number.
Cancelling
You can cancel Premium at any time by emailing us at myboatappuk@gmail.com. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Premium until the end of the month or year you have paid for, and then your account moves to the free plan.
We do not give refunds for part of a month or year, unless the law requires us to, as in the next paragraph and in section 10.
Your right to change your mind
When you first subscribe, you have 14 days to change your mind under UK consumer law. Because Premium starts straight away when you ask for it, if you cancel within those 14 days we will refund what you paid, less a fair amount for the days you had Premium before you told us.
05Hire bookings and invoices
When a boat owner or hire business uses Keelz for bookings and invoices, the hire agreement is between them and their customer. Keelz is not a party to it.
- We do not take payment for hire. Invoices are paid directly to the owner or business that issued them.
- We are not responsible for the hire itself, the boat, the amounts on an invoice or any VAT on it.
- If you enter a customer's details, you must have the right to do so and must give them the information the law requires about how their details are used.
06The SOS screen
The SOS screen is not a distress beacon. It does not contact the Coastguard, the emergency services or anyone else.
- It shows your boat's identifiers and your device's position so you can read them out. You still have to make the call.
- The position comes from your device and can be wrong, out of date or unavailable. The screen works without signal only once it has been opened on that device with a connection, and only while that saved copy is on the device.
- Do not rely on Keelz in place of proper safety equipment.
In an emergency use your VHF radio (DSC distress or channel 16), your EPIRB or PLB, or call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
07Reminders, the assistant and the plate reader are aids
Keelz helps you keep and find information. It does not replace the boat's official papers, insurance documents and certificates, the manufacturers' service schedules, a qualified engineer's judgement or your own checks and responsibilities as owner, skipper or hirer.
- Reminders depend on the dates and hours entered and on email being delivered. They can be late or missed, so keep an eye on what is due yourself.
- The assistant and the equipment plate reader use artificial intelligence. Their answers can be wrong, so check anything important against the manual, the plate itself or a qualified person.
- Service templates are general starting points, not manufacturer guidance.
08Using Keelz fairly
When you use Keelz you must not:
- break the law, or use Keelz to harm, harass or mislead anyone;
- upload anything you do not have the right to share, or anything unlawful, offensive or harmful, including viruses or other harmful code;
- enter other people's personal details unless you have a right to;
- try to get into accounts, boats or records you have not been given access to;
- interfere with or overload the service, test it for weaknesses, or copy, scrape or take it apart, except where the law allows you to;
- use the assistant or any other part of Keelz to send spam or to produce anything unlawful.
If you break these rules we may suspend or close your account. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you first and give you the chance to put things right.
09Your records
The records, photos and files you add are yours. You give us permission to store, copy and show them only as needed to run Keelz for you and for the people you give access to.
You can export your records at any time from Settings. Please keep your own copies of important documents, such as insurance and certificates.
10Changes to Keelz
Keelz is a small service. We work to keep it running and correct, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of mistakes, and it may be paused for maintenance.
We may change or improve features. If we make a change that takes away something important from Premium, we will tell you, and you can cancel and get a refund for any time you have paid for and not used.
11Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our responsibility where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for your legal rights as a consumer, such as the right to a service provided with reasonable care and skill.
As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for:
- information that is missing or wrong because it was entered by you or by someone you gave access to;
- an email that is delayed or blocked by an email provider;
- problems caused by your device, your connection or events outside our reasonable control.
If you use Keelz for a business, such as running a fleet or a hire business, we are not responsible for loss of profit, business, revenue or opportunity, and our total responsibility to the business is limited to what it paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
12Closing your account
You can close your account at any time by emailing us. We then delete your records as described in the privacy notice, so export anything you want to keep first.
We may close an account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms. If we ever stop running Keelz, we will give you at least 30 days' notice so you can export your records, and refund any Premium time you have paid for and not used.
13Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when the law changes or we change how Keelz works. If a change affects you in a significant way, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can cancel before then.
14Complaints and the law
If something goes wrong, please email us first at myboatappuk@gmail.com and we will try to put it right.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts where you live.
